Nicolas Vernier was born in 1966. A graduate of the Ecole Centrale de Paris, he obtained a doctorate in material science in 1992. Since then, he is « Maître de Conférence » at the Université Paris-Sud. During the period 1992-2001, he worked on the properties of amorphous substances at very low temperatures, and on the reversal of large magnetic moments by tunneling at the Laboratoire de Physique des Solides. In 2001, he became interested in field-driven and current magnetization reversal in thin films and nanowires. He started working in IEF, since September, 2007 where he is pursuing the same studies on several different materials, such as Pt/Co/Pt multilayers and the dilute magnetic semiconductor GaMnAs.
